If you believe your device is not updating correctly, I recommend restarting the device. To do so, unplug the power adapter from the back of the device. Then, plug the power adapter back in.
Then perform the following steps:
Make sure your device is on and has an active Wi-Fi connection.
Avoid saying anything to your device or using the Alexa app while performing the update.
When the update is ready to install, the light ring on your device pulses blue, and the device installs the latest update. Depending on your Wi-Fi connection, it can take up to 15 minutes to install the software update.
Your Echo devices are not updated to the latest version. If the issue pretests on one device, it will be the device fault but the issue happens on both the devices so I can realize that there is a problem with your WiFi. Try reset the network router or try connecting the Echo with a different WiFi and check whether the devices are updating.
I turned off my modem (VM Hub) & unplugged both my Echo & my Echo Dot, as suggested. I left the modem unplugged for about 10 minute, then plugged it back in. Once it was all up & running again I plugged my Echo back in & managed, eventually, to get it to connect to the internet again - left it alone (no speaking to it) for a couple hours, but still not updated beyond - 599473720.
Unfortunately, as of this writing I have still not managed to get my Dot to connect - I have been at it for hours ... and my Alexa app keeps freezing on the Setting page - (can access all other areas of the app, just the settings page becomes unresponsive) - and as it's still connected to the Amazon - xx that the setup asks you to do I end up losing my wifi - as my wifi no longer recognises my wifi password.
Hmmm ... both phones I tried setting up my Dot no longer have access to my wifi - they don't recognise the wifi password. This is all because of the Dot. I guess I can no longer get my Dot to work - I dare not restart my modem/hub in case I lose my Echo's connection again ... I guess Amazon are currently selling a dodgy batch :-/
UPDATE: I did unplug & replug my modem & got my wifi back on my phones ... moved the Dot even closer to my Hub - the app froze again trying to set it up, so had to hard boot the phone a couple times before the app worked again. Still no luck ... I get the ERROR 7:3:4:4:1 ... & I lost wifi on my phone again.
Whilst googling the error I discovered tomes of horror stories concerning the Amazon Echo ... this is happening to THOUSANDS of people - the ONLY solution people are coming up with is Google Home ... & to be honest I'm seriously giving thought to reboxing & taking them back to Argos & getting a refund - between the Dot & the Echo I can afford the Google Home ... fortunately still on the 30-Day trial of Music Unlimited so I won't lose any money cancelling that & subscribing instead to Google's music instead.
I honestly do not see what other alternatives I have, the Echo works okay, but I wanted Multi-Room music - if I can't get that with Amazon, I now know that Google Home offers that, and my Dot refuses to connect. In truth I honestly wish I'd not turned off the modem now - at least for a day or two I was happy with my MultiRoom music ... AND I have to go without Wifi on my phone now, since the Alexa App breaks wifi if it does not complete setup. :-(
This is so frustrating
Oh ... & my Echo (the Echo, not the Dot that no longer works) is still on 599473720 - so all this time, effort & broken wifi for absolutely nothing
