Good morning @Lucy. You may need to check that your Alexa app is up to date on BOTH your Alexa device (if you are using something like a Dot or Echo or something) and your command device (like your tablet, phone, etc.)
With the roll-out of the latest Amazon products Alexa has also had small tweaks and changes. It may be that you now need to instruct Alexa in a slightly different way.
Just tested with a new Dot Gen 3 "Alexa, play BBC Radio Solent". It seemed happy enough.
Switching to "Alexa, play Radio 4" I was warned BBC can contain mature content, asked if I wanted to proceed and when confirmed (a) sent a thing to my Alexa app to do something clever with BBC and (b) started playing Radio 4.
I think there is a "quote" log that shows what Alexa heard you say - maybe look in that and see if it's got a cold or something. Perhaps consider resetting whatever device(s) you are using?

I wonder why someone would follow their own alternative forum profile.
Not had this problem to try and reduce popping (it does not) I ask to open BBC and play my BBC stations from there if I do not open the BBC it plays from TuneIn, just tried both and my BBC local and national all working
Yes mine has broken too, over the weekend, it now announces the bbc station and then goes dead. Tried radios 1 2 and 3. Still plays from Spotify perfectly well so it’s likely to be a Tune in or BBC problem. Will keep looking for a solution.
Ok, I have worked it out. It’s the BBC’s fault, surprise surprise. They have introduced a new skill that doesn’t work and which I see people have been slagging off since the 10th. But don’t worry. You can get around it by saying this “Alexa, ask Tune In to play radio 4”
Have you set up the bbc skill in the alexa app. You must have a BBC account.
as a hint never reset a Sonos speaker. It can cause serious trouble. Sonos speaker have been around a long time and are extremely robust and reliable - hence their success. Reset is only used as an absolute last resort as a precursor to completely setting the whole system up from scratch again.
or do you mean you just reset the Alexa bit by forgetting it and setting it up again.
