I have 2 Echo Dot 2nd Gen one up stairs and one down stairs and one will control all my smart devices and the other wont discover or control devices.
Both Echo's are on the same software version and both are sat on the same network (BT Whole Home).
I have reset both devices and reinstalled the associated apps but have the same issues.
I wondered if it was an issue with the different Dot's connecting to different sections of the Whole Home so swapped the devices over and and had the same results i.e the one that was working continued to work.
From the Alexa App, i have control over my devices as expected and see all the devices i should be able to.
When i ask my second Dot to discover, it says it can not find new devices, but then when asked to operate a light for example, it can not find a device with that name.
The other issue i noted is that the Alexa app will not allow me to add the second Dot to any groups. I'm not sure if that is related?
I really need to resolve this as I cant currently switch my lights off from upstairs when I'm up stairs!
I'm sorry you're still having this issue after all of that troubleshooting! I have a few questions - thank you in advance! - so we can offer the best assistance.
When you mention resetting the devices, did you do this by pressing and holding the Microphone off and Volume down buttons at the same time until the light ring turned orange (about 20 seconds)? If not - try that on the Echo Dot that's not working correctly!
If that's what you've already tried, are both Dots registered to the same Amazon account and were both setup in the same Alexa app?
Also - the Echo Dot that you can't add to a group - does it show as one of your devices in the Alexa app? If so, does it show as offline or is it grayed out?
Do you have any light rings on the Echo Dot that is not behaving as expected?
Oh boy - that's a lot of questions! Thank you again for providing more info. Welcome to the forum
Try restarting your modem and/or router if you haven't already. If that doesn't help - do you have Voice Profiles or Amazon Household on your devices/account? If so - make sure you are in the primary profile. You can check by asking "Which account is this?"
Another thought - is it possible this Dot is already part of a Smart Home Group? I ask, because Echo devices can only be added to one smart home group at a time - this may be why it's showing greyed out in the app.
