We recently got out Alexa and first few days it was great, we could ask her to play a song or artist or play a playlist for party etc and she did it. Now every time I ask her to play a song/artist ie Ed Sherran, she replies 'i can't find songs by Ed Sheeran (or any artist we try or playlist!)
It's so frustrating, I'm not sure why she's stopped doing it. I've tried de-registering the account and 're registering it and factory resetting it. But nothing seems to work! Can someone please help by us out of this misery?!
- Does Alexa work at all - i.e. can you say "Alexa, what is the time" and get
(a) "it is now three, twenty two" or
(b) do you get "I'm sorry, I am having difficulty understanding that, please try again later."
If (a) then your alexa device is working and connected to the internet.
if (b) then your alexa device is working but is not connected to the internet and/or is offline.
To play music and stuff (now the clever bit which Amazon forget to mention) you MUST be connected to a streaming service - something like Amazon music or Amazon Prime or Deezer or Spotify or other such services.
The "easy" answer if to launch the Alexa app on your tablet, phone or pc, click to trial Amazon Prime for free for 30 days and wooosh, you get music again.
That is my total guess from what you have told us. If you can give more/better information then I am sure someone better than me can give you a better answer :)
Good luck (I only know this because I have had to do the same thing just 2 hours ago). CW

I'm having what sounds like a very similar problem. I have been a subscriber to Music Unlimited for several months and had no problems with the Echo accessing Amazon Music for the couple of weeks that I've had it.
Then, this morning it was unable to find any songs in Amazon Music but sometimes offered the option of signing up for Music Unlimited. I obviously said no as I already have an account.
I carried out a factory reset and reinstalled everything but it still can't find any songs. I think I've checked all the relevant settings and Amazon Music is set as the default source for music in the app.
Alexa can still send messages to other users (not Dropin), plays radio stations, and answers questions. Also, I can access Music Unlimited from the Alexa app.
Another 'newbie'! Just got Echo 2 for Christmas and managed to set it up without any difficulty via mobile phone app. Seems to answer questions ok, so must be connected to the wi-fi. Main problem is, as seems to be the same for many others is that connectivity in finding 'songs'. Plays music from the phone list and also from the radio, but not the streamed music which Amazon advertise, and we had hoped for. Even asking for specific tracks doesn't produce the result other than playing samples from Amazon Music. We're Prime members as well, but she can't find any songs from those playlists either! From what others are saying, it doesn't seem re-setting would help. Other family members have the same device, and they didn't have to do anything complicated to stream music, just plugged-in, set-up and away you go! Very hit and miss, and can't see any reference to talking to anyone technical at Amazon, so I don't know, very frustrating really!
I have solved the problem that I was having - might help others!
Amazon Music Unlimited is in my name but my wife is listed in My Amazon Household. Somehow Alexa was using my wife's Profile and could not, therefore, access Amazon Music Unlimited as the subscription is for an individual (me) and not a Family.
To check the profile you're currently using, you can say, "Which account is this?"
You can switch profiles between adult users on compatible Alexa devices. Just say, "Switch accounts."
Haven't found out yet if this can be done using the app!
Can anyone help please?!

Thanking you all in advance 😊
@Chezz: Hey there. Let's take small steps, ok?

The problem appears to be with voice control.
Any ideas appreciated.

Check your media settings in case they have forgotten the settings Music settings

Thank you so much! This totally worked and is so simple... except I never found any instructions anywhere on Amazon for this!
We also have the household account and it was in my account rather than my husband prime account!
You've saved Alexa in this household!
Amazon's Help page:
Using Household Profiles on Alexa Devices
Switch to Another Profile
After you set up an Amazon Household, you can switch profiles between adult users on compatible Alexa devices. Just say, "Switch accounts."
When browsing a content library in the Alexa app, use the drop-down menu at the top of the screen to toggle between user libraries.
