Having owned 3 x Echo Dots + 2 x Echos + 2 x Echo Shows which had all worked perfectly = I decided late November 2018 to purchase the latest ECHO SHOW 2nd Generation. Which arrived and setup in December. It worked ok until early January 2019 and then after a Software Update by Amazon the unit would not connect to my home WiFi Network even though all the other Echo devices including Show Ones were working ok! I spent most of January and into early February trying to resolve this issue but to no avail. So last week I contacted Amazon and spent over an hour on their Chat Lines trying to resolve this problem but never found a resolution so in the end they asked me to send my unit back for replacement which I did the same day. I packaged all the unit up including its 3 pin Power Supply and posted it back using Amazons Returns Label via the Hermes Parcel Network. 2 days later I received a Refurbished replacement without a power supply so had to contact Amazon again to resolve this problem so I could test and set the unit up. Well the 3 pin Power Supply arrived early this morning so connected it up - it took 30 minutes to load all the updates and then - guess what - yes exactely the same problem as my original unit - NETWORK Error! So I disconnected the nearest of my WiFi Routers and created a separate WiFi network called "ECHO" with its own password and located the router within 1 metre of the Echo Show II. This also produced the same Network Error! So back onto Amazon Chat for another hour the result being they can only send out refurbished units that I assume were sent back with the same problem as mine so hence another Duff Echo in the System! They offered to send another refurbished unit but I insisted they send a brand new unit but insisted they could not do this because the unit was 2 months old not the 1 month you have to qualify. What happened to Consumer Rights??? After standing firm they did say they would refund me the money I spent at the time £169 (they are now £230) so I cannot purchase a replacement new unit at this time. Plus I wont get the refund until they have inspected the unit when it arrives so no doubt I'll be even more out of pocket bearing in mind I spent over £1,000 last year with Amazon loyalty and customer spend counts for nothing!! I even had to pay the £8.70 Return postage myself tonight when I sent it back - Amazon are really going down-hill!!??
I would also like to know if other users of the ECHO SHOW II have suffered any similar problems after the updates by Amazon - It appears unlike most other SMART devices you don't get a choice with AMAZON updates you get them whether you want them or not? Furthermore the Amazon Firmware does not allow you to go to the SETTINGS Menu until after you have linked to WiFi so you cannot change any network settings yourself to try and resolve these problems!
I tried both RESET and FACTORY RESET and the hidden RECOVERY MODE and none of these made a blind bit of difference to linking to WiFi to make it operable!!??
I suggest you keep an eye on the ECHO Forums and Ongoing Echo Show problems before purchasing and ECHO SHOW 2nd Generation.
