I bought the echo show all because Skype does not allow automatic video. One tiny feature that some idiot decided to block has cost me £200. No I don't hold out much hope Well just have to wait a decade for competition to force change
When I was very young I helped in IT support and looked after two sealed sites - one Mac Only, the other PC only.
We had a 7 minute response and replace window for the Mac site.
A "next day" response and replace window for PC's
The simple reason for the difference in response windows was that Mac's were not customer customisable and pc's are totally open for any user to do anything to them. I would imagine that part of the "one size fits all" for their products is Amazon's desire to have as few as possible failures due to customers messing about with the OS. This seems to be supported in part by the strong wall between Amazon App shop and Gooogle Play Store.
I think you have a totally valid point that Amazon will (*and should?) ignore any minority seeking esoteric change if it in any way makes life worse for the majority. Their refusal to release the sleep screen real estate since day one suggests they will always be "stubborn" about this.
I think you are right, Amazon will not respond to most "wish list" items. They do listen to things that make things easier for them; make a valuable cost/benefit to future sales and rapidly declining sales/increasing returns. Look how quickly they walked away from the Fire Phone.
I genuinely hope that Amazon devices and services do eventually meet most of your requirements, or that you find an alternative solution that meets more of them :) Best wishes, CW.

Anodyne replies are dictated. Moderation leads to termination of the concept of Freedom Of Speech.
Or Amazon could try listening to their customers. But they won't. Not while some customers are so in their thrall that they'll put up with anything.
This very thing prevents me buying one in the first place. If I had bought this and this silliness was there I would have simply returned it. It is a deal breaker annoyance for me. I only get agitated about things I have control over otherwise it’s a waste of my time and effort, and voting with your wallet is always satisfying.
if this “defect” has not existed at time of purchase and was introduced later then let hell loose.
i have a few dots and the 2am light shows and random admonishment from Alexa not being able to do something (or when she decides to have a chat with herself about something) is the price I pay for what I use them for...likely until Google can do the same thing then I will ditch the irritating things after some research.
As far as I am aware, most users want Alexa suggestions removed from the screen.
So why aren't they?
Also, most users want to be able to choose their own wake word.
Not exactly rocket science.
Basically Amazon don't care really you buy a device, but Amazon own the software and if they want to annoy you with "things to try" and other really annoying things they will. As for wake word yes it would be nice to be able to choose another word and maybe one day we will at the moment a basic choose of 4 words seems very limited
