So i'm having issues with my Echo Plus - I bought my first one about two weeks ago and it's been working fine, no issues. Then on Friday this week i got home and every time i tried to use Alexa it would display a red ring and say "Sorry, I'm having trouble understanding you right now". I tried powering it off and on again but same story. Then i went through a whole series of combinations of power cycling my router, resetting the echo by holding down the action button, factory reset by holding down mute & volume down, swapping the device to 5 GHz band in my router settings, basically everything i could thing of but nothing worked. Finally contacted Amazon and they suggested swapping the device for a new one which i did yesterday. So i get back home yesterday with the new echo, set it up, worked fine all day. Woke up this morning and it's doing the same red ring/error message...
Does anyone have any suggestions because i'm losing my rag with this now.
(Just as a side note - i also have an Echo Dot 3rd Gen in the bedroom and that's worked fine this whole time)
Split the 2.4 and 5ghz bands on your router and rename one (you can leave the password the same if you wish) e.g. tomic and tomic 5ghz
If that doesn’t work...
Move it to a new location, like your bedroom where you know something works. Swap the units around. If it works OK there just fine. If the ex-bedroom one works in the new location then it is unlikely your wifi but interference from somewhere which occurs at certain times of day.
Download a wifi app and see what else is happening in the wifi environment (i can see 22 different routers).
routers will auto change channels if interference is too great and maybe a channel change by another router is causing interference. Fix your router channel to a fixed channel.
