This happens a lot ... The album has the same title as one of the tracks on the album. Alexa only wants to play the track, but I want to listen to the album.
When I ask for the album name, how do you distinguish that you want the whole album by that name, not the single track?
I had this exact problem last week and I did ask Alexa correctly to "Play the new Album The Modern Age by Sleeper", but every time she insisted on playing just the track of that name!
I gave up and used the Amazon Music app to cast the album instead.
I suspect that removing the two words "the" and "new" or perhaps even just the word "new" from your original phrase: "Play the new Album The Modern Age by Sleeper" might also work.
I communicate with quite a few people around the world who use online translators to and from English in our correspondence. I frequently think carefully about how I am constructing a sentence to try and maximise the chance that the translator will not get confused.
I have the same problem where I cannot get Alexa to play the track. If a song title is the same as an album title Alexa will always play the album and not the song - there is no way to play the song directly.
I'm trying to play Hotel California, not "Hotel California" (album vs. song) but can't do it. I've tried the examples provided above and always get the song.
Just tried a two part request but Alexa was on to me. "Alexa, play an album for me." I expected she'd ask which album but instead, she decided I'd like to hear Abby Road by the Beatles. Not bad, but not what I was in the mood for.
FWIW, I went to the Alexa app and in the "recently played" section, I have Hotel California (HC) and Abby Road (AR) shown with their respective album covers. No indicator (that I can see) that one is a single and the other is an album but that is the case.
Alexa says, "hmmmm, I don't know that" when I asked her to play the album that has "Life in the Fast Lane". She's tricky (or increasingly less bright, I suspect).
She can play the individual tracks from HC (if asked for individually).
On TV, the "good son" teaches his old father how to ask for a song with a single lyric (if you can call it that). That seems to be a bit overstated by what I'm experiencing.
This is certainly more convenient than grabbing a CD and pushing play. Dontcha think?
@Quiet: Sorry, think the "pro" bit may be a bit of an overstatement now. :(
Totally accept and respect that you are embarking on a new integration - but we are just fellow customers. Your general comments do not allow us to offer targeted or specific suggestions or solutions.
I would strongly and respectfully suggest that you continue to play with the new toys and work out what works and what does not - and then hit up the forum for specific Q&A - we would be a lot more useful to you I believe in that scenario.
Regards, CW.

The album and one of the tracks on the album is called 'Easy Living' But I want the album.
Hello Abbotshade, welcome to the Forum!
Have you tried asking like: "Alexa play the album TITLE by AUTHOR".
I have made some tests and Alexa always started with the first song of the album.
Let me know please!
That's brilliant. Yes, worked perfectly. Thanks!

Hey Bungalow Bill thank you for sharing this situation with us.
Did you try with different requests, lIke "Alexa play The Modern Age Album by Sleeper"?
Give it a try and let us know!
Hey Massimo, Just tried your suggestion and am happy to say it worked

Disappointed when I see "answers" that seem to have been posted purely to wind-up others or to create conflict, rather than to actually help anyone.

I’m having the opposite problem. Alex will only play the album but I just want the song. I tried “play the song” “play the track”

How are you asking?

Any progress out there?
