I am trying to get Alexa to speak with my Harmony Hub to activate the Harmony Activities I've set up.
So far I have: -
1. Set 4 Activities up: a. Watch TV b. Watch TV Receiver c. Watch TV DVD and d. Watch DVD Film.
2. Downloaded and Linked the 2 Alexa Skill apps
3. Ensured that the 4 Activities work through the Harmony, not using Alexa.
The first 2 activities work fine with Alexa - a. uses my TV, Sky Q and Sound Bar and b. the same but using my Receiver rather than my Sound Bar.
The second 2 simply don't work with Alexa saying you don't have a Video Skill or Movie skill as appropriate. c. uses my TV, Bluray Player and Receiver and d. uses my TV, Media Player and Receiver.
The Activities show in both Skill apps (although only initially after de-linking, then re--linking) and have tried saying "Alexa tell Harmony to...." etc etc. With a. and b. all I need to say is "Alexa Watch TV / Watch TV Receiver or "Turn off TV / Turn off TV Receiver".
For the life of me I don't know what's going on here - if a. and b. work ok, why don't c. and d. ?
Any help would be appreciated and some help in getting the Activities to show in the Skill apps without having to de-link and re-link.
As previously mentioned I have Downloaded and Linked the 2 Alexa Skill apps - the specific one you have linked to (I call this the blue one :) ) as well as the other one (the red one).
"Alexa, turn on the TV" Works fine (a. above) "Alexa, turn on BBC One" This seems to activate the TV Receiver Activity (b. above) but (because I use channel 115 BBC 1 HD (via Sky) I said BBC two and this is what appeared on the TV :) - totally confused why it changed activities though. "Alexa, change channel to 29" Did not work - Alexa said I need to install a video skill "Alexa, turn up the volume" works fine "Alexa, mute the TV" both mute and unmute work fine "Alexa, pause Netflix" I do not support Netflix, so didn't try "Alexa, turn off the TV" works fine
Please note all 4 Activities work fine using Harmony alone. I just want all 4 Activities to work through Alexa
Thanks again Peter. I am still having massive difficulties, not with Activities 1. and 2. - these work perfectly and as you describe. This tells me everything has been set up correctly.
My difficulty is with Activities 3. and 4.. Why is this? If 1. and 2. work then for the life of me, I don't understand why these don't. Alexa complains of not having the required skills and as you also suggest, the matter lies with the Alexa app. May I say that using Harmony alone, all four of these Activities work fine, it's just 3. and 4. which flattly refuse to work with Alexa.
Regarding the skills themselves, within Alexa - I started off last week just installing the Blue Harmony Skill but nothing worked - it was only after installing the Red Harmony Skill that 1. and 2 worked.
Please can you tell me: -
a. How can you rename Activities (by giving them friendly names) without having to first de-link the skill and re-linking
b. How do you completely uninstall both Skills in order to start over - all I can see is how to link and de-link
c. I haven't tried yet, but would changing the friendly names for 3. and 4. within the Skills, improve things? If so why should this be the case? - I'm just trying to understand things.
