I have 1st gen Echo, 3rd gen Dot and 1st gen Dot. I created a multi room music group called "downstairs" with the Echo and Dot (3gen), which works fine. I tried to create another music group "everywhere" but the other Dot does not show when I create the . I've asked all 3 devices to check firmware and all are up to date. All 3 accept requests for smart devices and I can create other groups with all 3 but not a music group. All 3 are on same Wi Fi network. I've tried switching everything off, including router but nothing changes.
Hi Kosmos, just to note that it is my understanding you can not have the same Echo device in more than one group...at the moment anyway, you should be able to create downstairs group with the 1st Gen Echo and 3rd Gen dot but that would only leave the 1st Gen Dot to be added in the everywhere group.
If that make sense. Also creating groups for music seems to be a bit temperamental at times, in other words you might have to try more than once before it sticks.
thanks for the response. Amazon say that devices can be in more than one music group and I tried this out to confirm. It is correct. I can create new music groups but the 1st gen Dot never appears as a device. If I try to create other groups (not music) the device does show.
anyone else got any suggestions on getting this working?
Problem solved. I contacted Amazon who told me the Dot was registered to a different account. This was puzzling as the Alexa app told me all 3 devices were registered to me. Anyway, I deregistered the Dot and registered it again, when it adopted the default name Amazon had told me it had. I renamed it and then managed to create a multi room music group including it. For interest, I have 2 multi room music groups with some devices in both.
im still puzzled that Amazon's records seemed to be out of date in regard to my devices' names and registrations. I had renamed one of the devices months ago yet Amazon still had it under its old name and registered to previous user (my other half).
