Getting totally fed up with Alexa. It's not fit for purpose and does not comply with privacy laws. I am surprised Amazon has not sacked their testers and test Managers. All updates appear to be released without testing. here is why
issue from 14 Moths ago when Alexa would not "Turn of lights "but insisted on "Switch off lights" was fixed and worked fine until the latest update this weekend when its back.
Routines that worked OK for the last three months no longer work after updates last weekend
Blue tooth connection to my speaker working OK for last six months stopped working after last weekend updates
Although scribed to prime music premium keeps saying " you have to subscribe to prime music premium to listen to that
Despite having Spotify officially linked keeps saying " You have to subscribe to prime music premium to listen to Spotify
Keepsloosing connection to my Alexa Remote
Listen in to private conversation without permission
Next day prime delivery three weeks late
All home automation stopped working after weekend update
And soooo much more.
Best idea don't by iQos now.wait to see if things approve

There's no such thing as 'prime music premium.' Amazon offers a Prime membership which includes Prime Music (a small subset of Amazon's music catalog) and Amazon Music Unlimited, which is a separate music subscription, unrelated to Prime and which has different plans. If you're requesting music tracks which are not included with Prime, but offered with AMU, you'll be advised of the necessary upgrade to access the songs. If you already have an AMU subscription, and are still being told you need to subscribe, the devices aren't registered to the Amazon account with the subscription and/or there's an issue with your music service designation. ETA: if you have AMU, but a plan not supported by the current device or setup, you'll need to upgrade to a plan suitable to your needs and/or configuration.
From your posts is it reasonable to guess that you are not UK based? Is it reasonable to wonder if there are differences between USA, UK and European releases?
You provide a long list of problems which I assume you have raised with Amazon Customer Services help team to work with you to solve.
I note your first point is that one needs to use "Switch" and not "turn". If there is a known "work around" i.e. use "Switch" is it really a problem?
If there are updates is it ALWAYS Amazon / Alexa software updates that cause the problem? I ask simply because I have discovered various apps that have not been updated by their producers to keep up with Alexa. Is it not those apps failure to keep up the guilty one?
Currently all of my very old BT devices link to all Alexa enabled devices. I've never updated the devices or their links. All of my Alexa devices are currently up to date (12-Oct-29) could you detail your devices that are failing so that other customers may be able to help you?
Alexa, by definition, must "listen" to voices to respond to Alexa wake word. That is basic, obvious and not new. If one needs to have a super secret conversation you should always use a clean room - (long list of how to create a clean room). Alexa / Google / Apple devices in the room obviously stops them being clean. Is this really a concern for you? If so then you need to junk all Alexa / Google and iOs enabled devices. All of them.
If you are buying a PRIME item from China then delivery may well take 3 weeks. Is that really a concern or surprise? Prime membership does not mean providing a special supersonic plane to get things around the world instantly, surely? (Are there supersonic planes that can get stuff from China to UK in a few hours anymore?)
Yes, you are quite right to note that a major update of Alexa or Amazon baseline OS may demand a reset of all devices.
This bullying of posters serves absolutely no purpose. I disagree almost entirely with karlosuser, but he has a perfect right to express his opinion here without being harassed by others. And how ironic that CombatWombat suggests above that "Moderation leads to termination of the concept of Freedom Of Speech".
The mods should stamp out this kind of conduct once and for all.
Thank you @AM Doreen K: Regret I do not recall whatever comment(s) needed editing. Apologies if they caused offence, either real or imaginary.
I do hope that some of my points which either offered suggestions on how to cure some of the OP's issues were helpful or indeed only the comments asking if expectations were not matching potential may be based due to needing to check up what could be done :)
(I took note of @cam's earlier reply correcting services available and therefore assumed (probably wrongly) that the OP was getting services and "what's on the tin" a little muddled?)
Anyway, I'm hoping that @Karl has got a load off his/her chest and possibly has found a couple of hints on how to address some of the problems he/she is facing.
(I know that there seems to be little rhyme or reason on how to get Dots or Inputs to read (using talk to me) kindle books. Just as the OP notes "switch/turn" is a struggle then "read/play/get/beginning/chapter one/preface" are all sometimes a lottery. Perfect? No. Workable? Deffo.)
Thanks again @AM Doreen, and apologies again @Karl if whatever I may have said was upsetting in any way :) Regards, CW.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I wonder why someone would follow their own alternative forum profile.
@BothN: I also wonder if there are certain pitch ranges that act as masks or buffers. Two DOT's and the Input have always worked well in their rooms where there is little ambient sound. The one in the study needs a variable input from Shout to Mumble. The "killer" seems to be the laser printer - if humming away it seems to block commands being heard.
On the other hand it does seem to like turning on the study LG tv randomly - pity really, since I still have not managed to link it correctly to do it on purpose!!!! Grrr!

It most certainly complies with EU privacy laws unless they fancy a several billion dollar fine.
i suspected there must have been an update as I no longer have to shout at the dear thing to get anything done.
