I’ve just spent an hour online with Amazon chat trying to sort this voice view n child’s profile. First person couldn’t help me, didn’t understand that it was only on the child’s profile....second guy sorted it out!!
1) deregister your kindle fire from the adult account.
2) hold down power button for 40 seconds.
3) when kindle fire restarts register it again.
4) child profile will still be there and will work without the bloody voice and green box!
I have three kids with these tablets and one of mine is doing it!!! Somehow my one year old enabled it and it’s been a nightmare trying to figure it out!! Thank you for the solution! I’m going to try it now and pray it doesn’t mess with my other two I have registered
This is driving me nuts. my grandaughter turned it on somehow and i cant turn it off.
Ive followed this thread but when I tap with three fingers to get the settigns box, I dont have and cant get an accessibility tab to select.
I've tried using three and two fingers to select other settings, but nothing happens except it keeps telling me what its doing. Text box button. it seems to adversely affect performance as well, with screen tap recognition being ignored
This is a real pain and if it was mine, it would be at the bottom of the river with a dagger through its heart. My credibility as a super Grandpa who can fix anything is seriously compromised.
Any help in why I cant get to the accessibility menu under settings in the Childs profilw would be appreciated.
Edit: NOTE - Single Screen Taps need to be replaced by TWO quick taps. This is possibly the only thing not going right ...
2 or 3 finger drag down on the home page gives you the drop down menu.
top right of that menu is a cog or wheel for Settings - fast double tap on that to go to settings.
2 or 3 finger drag of the settings menu to find the Accessibility option - fast double tap on that to go to Accessibility options. (it's at the bottom of the list in the SYSTEMS section.
Since it is telling you what you are doing then it sounds as if you have turned on the first option - VoiceView Screen Reader - fast double tap to call that up.
Fast double tap to turn OFF the Voice View.
(This is working on a Fire Gen 6 - if any of the screens are "wrong" then use your Super Gramps powers to find the correct equivalent. If you are still having a problem contact the Amazon HELP facility, answer a couple of questions and talk direct to an Amazon helper - they can probably use the MAYDAY feature to take over your Fire and turn the voice(s) off for you.)
EDIT: I have stupidly assumed that if you turn the setting off in the adult profile then it will be off in the kids profile. This is a wild assumption and probably wrong.
Either follow the same steps when in the kids profile - but I have a feeling that access to settings may be restricted or even not available or consider removing the kids profile / doing the above / creating the kids profile again .... but that may well pop up with the same problem unless you call that profile Wombat1 rather than Wombat"
Thank you @Cam. Another thing I have learned today :) Cheers. CW
I'm thinking that little hands might be prone to using multiple digits when manipulating the screen, which may be part of the problem (the result being the activation of VV). Don't have a Fire so haven't performed the steps myself, but using one finger to turn off VV, makes the process more precise and hopefully, ensures the desired results.
@PAM123 This also worked for me. Thanks! I'm thinking the age group the child profile is in makes a difference? Either way, there was no "accessibility" option under my one year olds settings, only mine. Very frustrating! If there is going to be a quickstart to turn it on (apparently holding down the power button and touching the screen with two fingers for a few seconds turns this feature on) then there should be a setting to turn it off!
