@Terrry: Good morning. I am assuming that you are unable to use wireless connectivity to move things onto your Fire.
You are totally correct, your new Fire should be able to be connected to a PC using the USB/Micro USB cable (the same one you use to charge it).
For Amazon books moved this way they should appear in your "books" tab. Just as before, these books must be purchased and the option set to "Deliver via pc".
For other books or documents, these will be found under the "DOCS" tab - Amazon for some reason differentiate between their books and all other documents. It is confusing at first, but quickly becomes a valuable feature :)
Films should be found under your VIDEO tab.
If you can charge your fire with the cable then that cable is good for transferring stuff.
If the above does not address your problems then please accept my apologies. Please come back saying what is not happening (Does your pc "see" your Fire when it's connected? ; Do films and books drag and drop to the Fire but can not be found by you?) In this way a smarter fellow customer than me may be able to offer better assistance :) Good luck, CW.
P.S. If everything seems to be working but you still get no joy, perhaps try the HELP link at the top/bottom of most Amazon web pages. Follow the menu until you get to Contact Us For Free and chose either Call Me Back For Free or eChat and one of the Amazon Support team will be able to discuss the problem and see how to resolve it.
