Only 4K content will give you 4K. If you wish to play 4K discs then a 4K player must be used* A normal blu ray player is good enough if you do not. The TV extrapolates the HD output to display properly on a 4K screen.
*a 4K player will be a SMART one and will also have the usual TV apps built in for 4K viewing.
I think that is what I said.
I wish I could buy a non smart TV/player as I never use the smart bits and get fed up waiting for them to bust into life, it is as bad as the CRT screens when you had to wait for them to warm up.
@CW. Netflix auto selects output i.e. if you have a 4K tv it will show 4K by default. Amazon does not. You have to select it, and the problem is trying to find it. The search function is beyond useless. The menu was revamped from at the side to the top. It has not worked properly since. What 4K offering they have, seemingly only for their own shows, made not exactly easy to find. And the list looks smaller too.
Thank you. Using the Amazon apps on the TV seems to get to a working solution. I think the problem is "USER FAILURE" because I was trying to use the tv and the fire stick. The in-built apps seem to work perfectly.
Yes when I select the series to my watchlist, it is the UHD version.
Still no 4K movies section
Clearly the fault lays at the doorstep of Amazon. Strongly suggest that you contact Amazon customer services and demand an explanation for seems clearly to be their failure. Anyway, good luck with it. 😕
I find that if i watch normal HD content eventually the 4k section disappears, and a search for 4k content returns nothing in 4k/UHD.luckily i have 4k content saved on my watchlist, and after watching, say,Spectre in UHD for an hour or so,then the Grand Tour for an hour or so,the 4k/UHD bar returns.Absolute pain in the **** but possible to get 4k bar back. Also,if u search on ur phone for 4k/UHD content and save to watchlist,it will appear on fire tv box, then watch for and hour or so and bar should return.Amazon really need to sort this, along with the 4k/UHD search which returns nothing in 4k/UHD.Really gonna consider my options once my year with prime runs out!!
