I purchased a new Fire TV stick and set it up yesterday. Initial setup went as expected.
After a few hours the remote stopped working and the Fire TV stick wouldn't respond to any inputs. Cue many power disconnects for 10 minutes at a time and simultaneous removal of the batteries from the remote followed by restarts to see if they would pair/respond again. None of this worked.
So I installed the Fire TV app on 3 phones here in the household. The app behaved the same on all 3 devices. It would connect to the Fire TV and work for a few seconds or a minute and then disconnect. When connected the Fire TV was responding to remote input from the app but it was unusable, as the Fire stick would take a number of minutes to respond to a remote command from the app. Eventually I managed to perform a Reset to Factory Defaults in the Settings menu of the Fire TV, except now the remote won't pair upon first boot/setup of the Fire stick.
I then followed the instructions to wipe the settings from the remote so as it would forget anything stored internally (menu+back+left button for 10 seconds).
I'm left with a Fire TV stick which won't boot up as I can't get past the remote pairing screen, and obviously the app can't be paired yet as the Fire stick hasn't completed it's first boot.
Any advice ? Or should I just throw this back in its box and return it to Amazon for a full refund ?
