I have been using the original Amazon Fire TV box with my Cambridge Audio Azur 551R Receiver and Panasonic PTAT6000 projector with Dolby Digital Plus for years and no issues.
The Cambridge Receiver has Dolby Digital Plus, which was my reason for purchasing it as most online content seems to use this for surround.
I recently bought the 4K stick as my old Amazon Fire TV box was having issues with image shudder a few people said it may be because the box is old and may be worth replacing it. I plugged my new 4K Fire stick into the back of the amp, the same HDMI socket the original Amazon box was connected to.
The picture was perfect and the odd frame shuddering issue gone (great!) but there is no sound.
The receiver isn't able to lock onto any audio signals from the Fire TV Stick, I tried all the audio formats even Stereo but all the time the receiver just flashes HDMI - which is what it does when it can't find an audio signal. All the time I was experimenting with this the picture over HDMI is fine by the way.
I even plugged my old Fire TV back into the exact same HDMI input on the receiver to make sure it wasn't the receiver but it worked fine - so it's definitely something to do with the new 4k Fire Stick. The Cambridge Receiver is configured as straight through so it's not trying to mess with the HDMI signals. I tried to enable ARC on the Cambridge Audio Receiver to see if that helped but it didn't so I have disabled it again, it was never on with with the old Fire Box.
I took the fire stick to work today and tried it in my work monitor (which I found has sound) and the stick worked.
According to the data sheets both the Amazon Fire TV and the newer Amazon 4K Stick use exactly the same format for Dolby Digital Plus - eAC3.
I went for the 4K fire stick over the standard one as it was faster and at some point in the future we may get a 4K projector. I can't see the fact we have a 1080p projector being an issue, besides the projector is fine!

Anyone got any ideas?
Hi Monty!
I'm so sorry it's not working as expected! Let's double check the Audio Input is set to HDMI and the correct Surround Mode is selected on your receiver. Also, while a series is playing, press the Menu (hamburger) button on the remote and select “Audio” from the menu that appears in the lower right corner of the screen. Press right to get to the “Audio output” options and then change the audio selection until sound plays. You can also contact CA support here and they could walk through connection issues.
Also, welcome to the digital and device forums! Usually a peer or fellow customer has an amazing answer on here for any and all kinds of issues, so you're certainly in the right place for advice and guidance!

I have tried to select different options in the settings menu. I tried Stereo, Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus but don't get sound with any option, I can't even hear the menu navigation sounds.
I have contacted Cambridge Audio, they do not know why it is not working and suggested using an HDMI pass through device with a toslink output but I don't believe I can get Dolby Digital Plus over TOSLINK only Dolby Digital which is lower quality.
Is there a chance the standard (non 4k) Amazon Fire Stick may work?
I have a similar, but not identical issue, which is very frustrating. I also had a 2nd gen Fire tv box, which worked happily with my AV processor (Arcam AV950, which is fully DD+ capable on all hdmi inputs). The Arcam showed "Dolby Digital +" when playing Man in the High Castle and other Prime or Netflix programmes supporting DD+, and when watching BBC iPlayer it automatically switched to "Digital Stereo" (since iPlayer doesn't support DD in any flavour).
With the 4K stick, this just doesn't work - if I set the Fire audio settings to Best Available, again I get full DD+ played back by the Arcam for the same DD+ programmes (and displayed on the processor's screen). But if I switch to iPlayer for example, the Arcam continues to display DD+, but I get no audio at all. If I set the Fire 4k audio settings to standard Dolby Digital, I get audio through the Arcam for all programmes including iPlayer - but the Arcam's screen still shows Dolby Digital, not Digital Stereo as it should.
What this seems to suggest is that, even when set to Best Available, the 4k stick just pushes DD+ to the processor regardless of the source audio format - and the processor is not able to work out what to do with it.
Ok, so I can still playback everything with bog standard DD, but obviously this means I'm not getting the best audio quality.
I raised this with Amazon help desk, and all they said was that the issue lies with iPlayer for not supporting DD and DD+ - even though I made it clear this issue only occurs with the 4k stick, and worked fine with the 2nd gen Fire box. Clearly the two devices handle audio differently,
I find it hard to believe I'm the only person who's had this exact issue?

Many thanks,
Rob.
Incidentally, I tried the 4K Fire Stick in the same HDMI socket as the old Amazon Fire Box which is working with Dolby Digital Plus.
I have also been following a thread on another forum regarding audio issues with the Fire TV Stick:
https://www.avforums.com/threads/amazon-fire-stick-how-to-add-to-receiver.2069928/#post-26894629
Disabling the CEC came up, I tried that but it didn't make any difference.
I thought I should update this thread,
In the end I returned the 4k fire stick and ordered the standard fire stick.
It worked fine with my amp and I can now get Dolby Digital Plus again!
Evidently there's a change in HDMI formats that my Cambridge Audio receiver wasn't able to handle.
I guess when I move to 4K I will have to buy a new receiver.
