I have recently moved to live in Spain. My only account was based in the UK but I recently associated my Spanish address to my account. I tried to buy the Spanish version of Primevideo but was told I couldn't and had to buy the UK version which I did. Have been using my firestick for the past 3 or 4 days without any problems until today. I now cannot use it on the tv as it keeps on showing error code 5505. I have logged into my UK account and "manage your content and devices" but there is no "settings" tab. All I see is a list of my devices and Firestick being one of them. When I click on that I just get the option to deregister.
I can't play videos on my pc as am told it's not available in my location. So what am I to do? Bought primevideo in good faith and paid extra for the UK service ( £7.99) because I was informed that the cheaper Spanish version at 4.99 euros was not available for me to buy.
Do I close down all my accounts ( if that's at all possible) and start afresh with a new account in Spain and register the firestick to that?
Why can't it be one price for all instead of ripping off people in the UK which seems the norm when it comes to all services as we don't like to complain. I would like a speedy resolution or my money back if Amazon is unable to help.
You are correct @Digger. The error code means a device registered for use in the UK is being used outside of the uk.
Amazon are only licenced to provide digital media in the respective regions. For you to use your stick in Spain you would need to be registered to Amazon.Es
The problem you are facing is that all details on an account need to be linked to that region. So for a UK account your need
a uk card from a uk bank with a uk address paying in pounds.
If you tried to link your existing uk account to spain it would have told you no (and it should have said "no you can not just change the portal you log into, you have to change or migrate all of your details.")
So you have 2 options.
Use the MIGRATE service to move your Uk account to a Spanish/European account - note you will no longer be able to access the UK portal for digital sales.
Create a brand new Spanish Amazon account using spanish bank, spanish card and spanish address. Then register whatever devices to that account.
I do not know what services are available on the spanish Amazon portal.
Either way, you do need to cancel your Prime service on your UK account as it seems you don't need or want it.
On the question of "value for money" I do not know what services are available/provided under the Spanish Prime service. I do know that, for me, the current fee of £7.99 a month (if paid monthly) for UK Prime is good value for money since i do use most of the benefits provided.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my problem. Unfortunately all my cards are linked to UK banks and although I have opened a Spanish account it is a non resident account and therefore also linked to the UK! It will be months before I can apply for residency as Brexit has delayed the process over here.
It looks like I will have to cancel my subscription which is a pity as I was enjoying a TV series I had never seen before.
I agree Prime is value for money but merely pointed out that the UK price is almost double that in Spain and the TV series I was watching is in the Spanish Prime listings.
Have emailed Amazon as I was advised on line that I couldn't sign up for Spanish Prime and had to buy the UK package instead.
