I have just bought a new Kindle Paperwhite, to replace my old one which does not work (the battery has gone and I cannot switch it on). I have made the new Kindle my default device, and it can access most of my Cloud content, but I cannot download that content to the device. The "sync" button only seems to work for new purchases. How do I transfer my content to the new device?
I have managed to get my head round transferring my existing books, (or a selection) to my new Paperwhite. However, I have just purchased a couple of new books. I have added them to one of the collection s in Manage My content and Devices, but they do not appear on the Paperwhite when I "Sync My Kindle". I have tried sending them directly by selecting each one in the Manage content list and clicking Delier and selecting the Paperwhite, but they still do not appear. I am now stumped for further ideas!!
Books automatically download to the device they are purchased on.
If you bought it on a computer or some other device then they will show as "available to download" on all other devices.
On your paperwhite home page select the display to show ALL and this will show ALL of the books in your Amazon account. You then tap any title and it will download.
If no books show then check that you have correctly registered your new Paperwhite to to correct Amazon account.

I wonder why someone would follow their own alternative forum profile.
I have just tried that, it does not show the newly purchased books, although they are of course listed in Manage My Content. The new kindle must be correctly registered as it has successfully downloaded a lot of books that I had already.
The books were purchased using the Amazon website on my Mac.
@Bax - hey there. In that case I would STRONGLY suggest using the Amazon HELP button on every web page and contacting Amazon support guys/gals using eChat or phone - it sounds like you have somehow created a ghost Amazon account and you need to deal with it sooner rather than later.
Usually the problem is something like example@live.co.uk rather than example@live.com or exampla@livee.cpm

if they are listed in your Manage Your Content page, then use the Actions [...] button to send them to your device
I just read the recent posts, so i didn't see your later one - these are the Help instructions that I give people on the US forums so the links go there;
Try these steps one at a time until the book(s) download:
1. Turn on the Kindle's wireless, and then do a Sync and Check for New Items (open the Settings menu to find that).
2. Look in your Cloud/Archives and see if it's there - if so click on it, and it will download to the Home screen.
3. Go to your Manage Your Content and Devices page at http://amazon.com/manageyourcontentanddevices and click on the Actions button next to the title and select send to Kindle (make sure you select the correct Kindle if you have more than one registered to your account), then turn on your Kindle's wireless and do a Sync and Check for New Items.
4. Reboot your Kindle (hold power button in the ON position for 30 seconds), then start at step 1.
4A. DO NOT do this step if you have a Kindle Fire - De-register, then re-register if you have an e-ink kindle, and then start at step 1.
5. Try to send it to your Kindle via USB cable. Go to http://amazon.com/manageyourcontentanddevices find the book and click on the Actions button [...] to the left of the book. Then click on Download and Transfer via USB and select your Kindle from the list of devices registered to your account.
6. Contact Customer Support.
also do a search on your device - perhaps they are there, but you can't find them? I've had that happen to me
I had to got My Library then select "All Items" and not "Books" (which seemed to me to be the obvious choice?) and then they appeared along with all the other books which were already in Collections.

Hope I have finally got to the bottom of this.
Thanks for the various suggestions
If any books, not bought from Amazon, or anything else is transferred to a kindle they are shown as docs not books.

They were definitely "Books" and bought from Amazon, which is why I was expecting them to show up as Books. I could understand your reply if I had bought stuff from elsewhere perhaps, or as you say anything else such as .pdf docs.

change your Home page to look like this:
All (highlighted) | Downloaded ___ All Items ___ Sort Method (Collections, Author, Title, Recent)
make sure your wireless is on and then begin tapping on and downloading your books
I seem to have the opposite problem to the OP.

mobi files from other sources are not considered "Books" either, but Docs even though they are books
