has anyone had problems with a 5gen kindle syncing to receive family library? I have found many tick boxes to try to ensure my partner's library is shared going through the devices and content page on web AND highlighting each individual book purchase and checking the box that should share the book to a collection but it just aint syncing. I have reset the kindle and synced a zillion times. Is the 5gen kindle not compatible with family sharing? I cant think what else it the problem could be. any advise, anyone?
some of the older Kindles require going to the linked account and sending the book to the device from the account to which the device is registered.
You can use Family Library on Kindle Paperwhite (5th Generation) and newer e-reader devices. This means that the 5th Gen Kindle with 5 buttons on the bottom doesn't support it on the device itself. There used to be a nice page in the Help pages saying what level was supported on what devices, but Amazon has either hidden it or deleted it
- When you created the Family (Household) Library there was a simple option "Share All content" or "Share Selected Content" - perhaps double check which option you chose and perhaps correct it to "Share All".
- The now joint library will show titles available when the home page filter is switched to "Show All". Check that this is the filter selection you have chosen.
- On a computer if you go to Your Account / Manage My Content and Devices you will see a list of all the books available for that account. It should show a complete list of the library books you already had PLUS there should be a scattering of books from the Shared library of the other account - it will say SHARED beside that title. If you see no SHARED titles then I think you may have to change the default setting for sharing on your Family Library settings to ALL.
Just in case, sharing a title does NOT automatically download or transfer or open a book. It just shares the title. You have to manually download that book to your device to read it. "Synch" may update the list of titles available but it will never download or automatically collate a book.
