I have ordered a new Kindle Paperwhite. I plan to give my old Gen 4 Kindle to my daughter for her use. However, the process of setting up and managing content for the old device does not seem clear. I have read all of Amazon's help topics but it still isn't very clear.
What I want is to:
- set up my new Paperwhite as my default device; transfer over any books from my account that I want (I think this bit is easy)
- clear all of my books from the old Gen 4 and set it up for my daughter to use
-- do I deregister and factory reset it or just empty it of content?
- set up the old Gen 4 for use by my daughter
-- do I keep this as a device on my account and simply deliver her books to that device?
-- is there a way of her managing her own content without getting access to mine, but allowing me to control or oversee it?
Amazon Family Sharing seems to sort of do it but not sure the Gen 4 supports this?
The best analogy I can think of is her iPad - she has an account which is linked to mine - she uses it in her own name but I control her content. Does Kindle do this?
Just one thing on Note 2 - I thought I could send my books to whatever device I have registered, although only on one at any given time? When you say “copy” from one device to another, I assume you mean copy as opposed to move?
don't copy books from device to device and don't move them from device to device. You want to download them from your account because a book on one device is DRM (digital rights management) encoded to open and be readable only on the original device to which it was downloaded
