@Adrian: Morning. I have most previous generation Amazon thingies and they have all connected seamlessly to a variety of blutooth speakers and headphones. (Again being a wide selection of modestly priced units.)
I do not think any of them were on any "approved" list, but all were "A2DP" (?) compliant.
HOWEVER, I have had to return my gen 9 Fire since it started failing on a number of random issues including failing to identify ANY Blutooth device even to show on a list and say "can't play with that one".
I am wondering if there has been an update to the Amazon base operating systems on Fires and eReaders and if it's got a bug in it or changed something in A2DP connectivity or some other clever thing :(
I'd suggest contacting Amazon Customer Support through the HELP link on most Amazon web pages for free and see if they are aware of any issues and/or solutions.
Or with any luck a different customer may have a perfect solution - fingers crossed
