I have paper white with wi fi and 3g. Whilst books are deiverewd to device they then need opening. This will not work on ships as I wont pay for their wi fi access but thought it should work via 3G

@Stones, good evening. I fear I may be mis-reading your post. You should be able to download your library of books to your paperwhite wherever you can get wifi/3g
I THINK I am misunderstanding your post in thinking that you need wifi or 3g to actually open and read book(s) once they are downloaded. This is not necessary. Once the books are downloaded you need no connection. Just battery power :)
When cruising I generally just get of the ship and wander around the port to download more books from free 3g .
My apologies if I am teaching my grandmother how to suck eggs :) Regards, CW.

I think the OP is referring to the situation where they have bought books and not synched them to their device yet?
But as long as they synch their Paperwhite before going to a ship, it does not matter if the hip has 3G or super-fast maritime wifi, they can read the books on their device, even with the device in airplane mode (or should that be aeroplane mode?)

does the ship have a 3G source? On land, you get it from cell phone towers, but I'm not sure about on a ship

Disappointed when I see "answers" that seem to have been posted purely to wind-up others or to create conflict, rather than to actually help anyone.
