I've been diveing back into my pole of old kindle books to re-read some of them, after the latest book in a series came out but I coulnd't remember the plot.
However while normaly when finishing a book the app links you to the next book if it is in your library. But this time it is saying whoy not buy the next book, which I definatly have. So after makeing sure and finding the book in my library I check my amazon account, and yep I bought all the books in this series, but the first two books when you clock to go to there store page give you the "The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site. " page instead.
So I go and find the book series manualy and acording to amazon I have not bought the first two books in the series even though I own all 4 of them. to add insult in ingury it now means that if I ever want to pick up audable for these books I have ot buy the book again or pay full price for the audable.
I did some more looking and its turning out to not be isolated, quite a few of the books I have this is happening to.
So yes anyone else haveing this, and is there a way to get the store to recognise I bought the books I bought?
that's actually quite common and usually results from a change in who owns the rights to publish the book. If you bought a Kindle book published by XXX and the right to publish the book is then transferred to ZZZ, the XXX listing and it's associated ASIN (the number that Amazon uses to inventory books and what is used to determine if you've purchased the book or not) are removed from Amazon and the new one with a new ASIN number is added. However, since you purchased a license to read the book, the book is not removed from your devices and you are still able to download the original book, there just is not a linked product page.
The most common reason for this are:
1. Publisher XXX creates a subsidiary to handle digital books and passes the rights to publish a book to that subsidiary
2. Publisher XXX decides not to handle digital books and passes the rights to Publisher ZZZ for a chunk of money
3. The book was originally self-published and a publisher made a deal with the author to publish the book. This happened with Shades of Grey and The Martian
4. The publisher or self-publisher has absolutely no idea how to update a book and instead removes the original listing and creates a new listing for the book
5. The book has too many bad reviews so the publisher/self-published author remove hte original listing and create a new listing for the book
I have at least a dozen of my books from 2010-2012 that are like that
Thanks for the reply, it just seems strange that only two out of the 4 book series are affected by this, Hell the second book that the page says I haven't bought still links me to the 3rd book that it says I did. Three of the four books in that series I bought within one month of each other yet two of them it says I don't have.
Maybe I've been blind but I only noticed this happening this year and over so many sets of books that it feels like something is messing up in the system than that many authors messing up, and I don't think you would split publishers over a four book series.
I have seen that happen within a series also. If you look at the image below, you'll see a list of 4 books in a series.
Book 1 = no product page
Book 2 = no product page
Book 3 (the one without a number) = product page but gives the message show in image 2
Book 4 = product page
When I look at the series listing, I see no indication that I've purchased Books 1-3 (see image 2) as it says I can buy them now. And I have to thank you for "making me look" as I didn't know there was a 5th one in the works.
More I look at this the more confused I get, as the audable part of the store for this set of books does recognise I own it, even if the books itsels doesn't, but I've had cases of that not being the case.
Guess I'll just have to put it all down to Amazon being strange, given the publisher ect does not seem to of changes and are are revews still there from even before I bought them. (Dungeon Born: Divine Dungeon Series btw)
Anyway thanks for the quick replys and your welcome about the "makeing me look" its always good to find out there is another book about the corner, especily if you didn't expect it.
