When I open a Kindle eBook to read, I find that recently any available audio downloads automatically if I am on Wi-Fi. I do not want this to happen as the memory on my modest phone is quite low and audio files are large. I would prefer a prompt to give me the option to download if wanted at that time.
I've looked at Kindle settings on my phone and on "Manage Your Content and Devices" on my PC, but cannot find anything to change. The Help Page for Listen to an "Audio Companion on Kindle for Android" is also no help.
I am not registered with Audible or Kindle Unlimited, al;though I do occasionally buy Audible eBooks.
My phone (a Nokia thingy) has a simple option on settings "download on wi-fi only" - is it possible that you phone has a similar option?
Edit: Having looked at it a bit further, my audible TITLES and covers download to my audible page on my phone. The actual audible file does not download unless and until I click on the cover and initiate download. Titles seem to take up negligible memory.
Are you sure you are getting "full" download, or just title download?
Thanks for looking into this, CombatWombat. I do have "Download on Wi-Fi only" set as an option, so a purchased audio-book could download when I'm at home or several other places.
I've taken as an example a book I downloaded for which I doubt I would have ordered the audio version (The Belting Inheritance by Julian Symons). I've searched my purchases on my PC in Amazon's purchase history and, sure enough, the book is listed but NOT the Audible version. But there is a heading below which says "Audible Narration Ready" and in a pop-up goes onto explain that I own both the book and Audio and so can listen to the story in sync. with the reading. It also says "Audible Narration" under the book cover and it downloads to play if I press the adjoining Arrow. .
When I open the book on my Moto phone, there is a pair of earphones in the top left corner of the page and the title and author come up alongside in a pop-up. But when I turn up the sound for Media in Settings and start to read it they disappear and there seems to be no audio (I usually have "media" turned off in sound settings).! Annoyingly, the pop-up appears again after I've closed the book and needs to be closed separately!
Going back to my problem, I DON'T want these to download on my phone unless I particularly request them.
This is, primarily, to save memory on my phone.
But I'm also concerned that I might be sold items I don't want because they are pushed at me by Amazon. My suspicions are based on the dreadful One-Click purchase thing on the phone which makes it far too easy to buy something whilst browsing (not to mention their over-aggressive promotion of Prime subscriptions and Kindle Unlimited!).
